"I guess I'd like to learn more about magic," you say.
"Magic, eh? Well, there's a bit to cover there. The first thing is that you need magic to be enabled in the World Mod of Life Controller, or have your own mana engine. I think we're covered there. Next is magic types. By default only wizardry is covered by the magic system. Ir requires arcane gestures, words, and materials to create magical effects in the form of spells. Unlike many of the other magic systems, it doesn't use any personally allocated mana, and is non-fatiguing. You should know all the spells, and all types of magic are enabled in my realm, so take this firefly," he holds out the dried bug, "and cast a light spell for me."
"Alright then," you say as you take the bug. The spell comes easily to your mind. You rub the dried bug between you right thumb and forefinger by pushing the forefinger from the last knuckle of your thumb toward the tip, continuing in an upward motion until you are pointing skyward saying, "Lux". A small ball of light appears at the end of your finger, much to your delight.
"Now that was a simple spell. Some of these bastards require a lot of hard to get components, and are quite complex to cast. There is also faith magic. That's where you get power to cast spells from a god like myself through prayer and ritual. Now I don't have the power to spare to support a clergy anymore. Only Yahweh and the Hindu gods really have enough for that, so I guess we won't be testing that out. Maybe if you get your godhood supported by enough followers you can support a clergy of your own. By the way, you can end that spell any time you want to by dropping your finger."
"Oh yeah, right!" you drop your finger and the light automatically goes out.
"Next is witchcraft. Witchcraft requires you to make a pact with a powerful magical creature in return for mana and spells with which to use the mana. They nearly always require something from you in exchange for mana and spells, but their spells don't require material components. Since you don't have a witch's patron we'll move on to Druidic magic. Druidic magic uses energy from natural environments to cast spells instead of mana. The spells are limited to nature spells, elemental spells, and weather spells. The level of spell you can cast is dependent on the purity of the natural environment and therefore requires neither mana, nor components. Try casting a plant growth spell on that flower."
"Okay," you say focusing on the flower. "Flos florum!" you say, raising your hand with fingers spread toward the sky. The plant grows before your eyes. "Are all the spells in Latin?"
"Oh, that's a setting. You can change it if you want to."
"No, that's fine. I was just curious."
"Okay, next is Tantric magic, the magic of sex. It uses stored sexual energy to power spells instead of mana or components. It works pretty much like the others, so we'll move on to Bardic magic. Bardic magic uses the power of sound to create magical effects instead of mana or components. The biggest limitations it has are that it is fatiguing, and spells are limited to emotion altering and illusion spells for the most part. The spell effect only lasts if the spellsong is being performed, and ends when it ends. Go ahead and sing up an illusion if you want to."
"That's okay," you say, "I'd rather not fatigue myself for something so straight forward right now."
"Suit yourself. That brings us to Sorcery, the neural interfaced magic system. There was actually a limit on the number of sorcerers during the heyday of magic because of the strain on the servers. Sorcery uses mana, but doesn't require and form of gestures, words, or materials. Go ahead and cast something."
"Okay," you say. You wave your hand imagining a gold coin appearing in it, and poof, one appears. "Neat."
"And that wasn't magic," says Loki. "That appears to be a neural interfaced use of buy mode. Try shooting lightning from your hand."
"Oh alright," you say. You point to the lake and focus on lighting coming from your hand, and with a crack of thunder, lightning streaks from your hand to the water's surface. You flinch involuntarily from the event, much to your embarrassment.
"So that's magic," says Loki, "what do you want to learn next?"
What would you like to learn next?
Infinity Pocket, Black Hack, Others?
