"I don't know, I'm just repeating what they said." She answered. She thought it probably had something to do with being punished in some way, but she wasn't sure. Saying what she thought it meant might be lying though, so she wouldn't say that. She had to answer honestly that she just didn't know.
"I... I don't know. They just said that." She answered. She knew what a piñata was of course, but there was something about the way her mommy had said that which made her not so sure. How was making a piñata supposed to make her start behaving better anyway?

She stays inside the classroom reading at recess. Her teacher, Mr. Loso, asked her a bunch of questions about her family.

"So, what is that sister of yours, Gemma, doing these days?" He asked.

Of course, Sonia never lies. So, of course she told him that she works at the local pizza restaurant. "Mommy and Daddy say that's not what she should be doing though." She adds. "They said she's going to get her piñata stuffed cauz of the new rules and that will 'straighten her out' though, so I guess it's Ok."

"What does that mean?" He asked her.

"I... I don't know. They just said that." She answered. She knew what a piñata was of course, but there was something about the way her mommy had said that which made her not so sure. How was making a piñata supposed to make her start behaving better anyway?

"Well, I can probably guess" Mr. Loso says, and he goes back to grading papers with a smirk. "With any luck, maybe I could participate when that happens. I might have to talk with the director of discipline about this one once I get the chance."

Sonia didn't really understand what he was talking about, but she didn't really think it was anything bad. After all, her parents said Gemma getting her piñata stuffed was supposed to help her, so it sounded like Mr. Loso was just trying to help her with stuffing her piñata. It still didn't really make any sense at all to her what stuffing a piñata had to do with making Gemma stop skipping school though, and for some reason Mr. Loso was making the face that made her feel afraid when he said that. She didn't understand why it always sounded like a bad thing when he was talking about things she thought should be good.
