You sigh and sit nearby as you just watch the girl whimper and watch the closed door her mother just left through. Eventually, she looks over in your direction.

"Hi there." You say. "Your mother will be back to pick you up in a little while. Would you like to play with me while we wait for her to come back?"

She clutches and arm to her chest and shakes her head quickly in the negative, leaving you with no proper response except to sigh in resignation.

"Well, there are some toys over that way if you would like to play" You tell her, pointing her toward the main room of your daycare. She looks the direction you are pointing, but then turns back and just stares at you a little bit more.
