Well, you're not sure how much you will be able to work with Mr. Grandville on this subject, but you might as well try and see if you can get somewhere on the subject.

Things have been going surprisingly well on the subject of arranging your marriage to a couple of pre-teens, but now you need to try and get the authority figures of the school behind you on the subject of breaking up the abuse at the Franklin home.

By the time you get back to the office, Mrs. Varano seems to already be in Mr. Grandville's office. This is perfect, you can tell them both about this at the same time. You give a quick knock on the door.

"Yes! Who is it!?" Mr. Grandville asks.

"Um... It's me sir." You tell him.

"Ah! Mr. Gardner, come in!" He responds. You immediately open the door and step in the office. "Mrs. Varano was just telling me about your arrangement with the Franklin and Styles girls. It sounds like it is the best thing for them, I will make the proper arrangements with father Isardo. You just enjoy your special day."

"Ah, yes, about that sir. Something else actually came up while I was talking to the girls, this is not directly related to the reason for the marriage."

"Something that you need to tell me about? What's on your mind Mr. Gardner?" He asks.

"Well, Mary told me something about her mother. It seems she said something about an abusive situation going on at her home."

"What kind of abuse?" Mr. Grandville asks. "If it is just hitting or yelling or something like that, I don't want to hear anything about it. I know you've spent some time outside the town Mr. Gardner, but Proverbs tells us that if you spare the rod you spoil the child. People in the city have grown far too sensitive on this sort of thing. I'm sure you know that what we are doing as part of the current program is also called abuse by most people on the outside too."

Yeah, you were afraid it would come to this.

"Yes, but from what she told me, it happens rather frequently. Perhaps the mother's method of discipline is not the best way to go about things, or perhaps she is doing things even when a punishment is not deserved by the children."

"Well, if I remember correctly, you are next door neighbors, correct? If it bothers you so much, I can pull some strings to get an order she should send her children to you for all punishments. That should satisfy you, right?"

You take care of everything? Is he suggesting what you think he is?

"Well, I guess so." You respond.

"Good! It's done then. Just finish up your day Gardner, I'm sure the stress of the sudden coming wedding is just getting to your head. You're overthinking things."

Yeah, just as you thought. This town does not take the concept of child abuse seriously at all. Oh well, at least you did manage to get something worked out.

You should make some phone calls

You have other people to talk to

You have told everyone who needs to know
