Well everything you wrote in your idea is mostly true, Shield is mostly men and Rose is mostly women, and there is a friendly rivalry, though that also includes Moon, sort of a three way rivalry between the three militant Orders.
The last part can't happen though, as one of the core Tennant's of the Religon is "No discrimination." So there would be no reason to sneak the training. If a woman wanted to join Sheild she would join and go through the process just like a man.

Hey Telgar, here's an idea:

"There is somewhat of a friendly rivalry between the order of the shield and the order of the rose. While women aren't prohibited from joining the order of the shield, it is generally frowned upon by other women."

Basically, the shields are typically men and the roses are typically female.

I had an idea of a group of trainee roses snuck out and begged a shield knight to train them and after years of secret grueling training, the girls were found out , but instead of being reprimanded, both the local Paladin and Grand Healer gave their blessing. The main reason for this blessing, was so that the order of the shield could have access to Lamton's School for Women, without raising too much of a comotion.
