General information

Neried are the Daughters of the sea god Nereus and are charged with the protection of all waterways that eventually feed the sea. They are benign toward humanoids, as long as their protectorate is respected. They have no issue with man made waterways and agricultural irrigation as long as the natural vwaterway is no completely diverted from it's natural course and the creatures dependant on the waterway are still allowed access.

They have no love for those who pollute waterways, or who divert, dam or destroy the natural flow of their protectorate. They will destroy any manufactured structure that they feel harms the natural flow of the water, or removes the water from the Creatures dependant on the water for survival.

Neried can be negotiated with, and deals can be struck to build manufactured structures on there waterways as long as allowances are made to protect the waters natural flow.

Neried feel no overwhelming need to breed with others, preffering to simply spawn another of their kind, asexually, when a new waterway is formed. They, however, do enjoy the act of sex and will gladly participate, if asked to by someone the trust or consider a friend or Ally.

Nerieds only true loyalty is to the waterways that they protect. They feel and understand bonds of friendship, but love and family are concepts beyond their understanding.

A Neried can't normally travel more than a mile from her waterway for more than twenty-four hours, however if she finds a way to carry some of her water with her she can travel indefinitely. Neried can travel to any point on her waterway or return to her waterway at will.

Young Nerids, under the age of twelve. Live close to their mothers waterway at the point where her protectorate branches from her mother's. Once they reach their twelfth year, they are free to travel and live anywhere along their own waterway.

Racial Features

The Nereids were depicted as young girls, inhabiting any water, salt or fresh, typically have skin and hair coloration similar to the various natural pure forms of waterways, lakes and streams. Their eye color varies from ice blue to aqua green.

Nerieds are always born female.

Lifespan

Neried age at the normal human rate until they turn twelve, at which time they stop aging. They have no maximum life span, though they can die by other means.

Immunities and weakness

Niried are immune to the natural elements, other than cold which greatly harms them, and are resistant to all forms of magical elemental injury, other than cold. They can heal from almost any physical wound except for injuries caused by cold-iron.

If a Nirieds waterway is destroyed she will die unless she can find a way to restore it within a week of it's destruction. Other Nerieds attached to her waterway will offer their assistance, whether they are dependant on that waterway or not. Drawing the ire of a Neried will almost always draw the ire of hundreds more.

Lamptons

Due to their lifespan and unpredictable nature Nerieds are not permitted to be Students, Faculty or Staff at Lamptons.

There is one Neried who holds a protectorate within Lamptons grounds. She protects the central river that splits Lamptons grounds in half. The river enters Lamptons in the northern woods, runs south through the middle of the school, where it fills the small swimming pond and provides water to the schools fountains, it continues out of the main campus trough the agricultural sector and ends in a small lake along the southern foothills.

She is permitted to remain as long as she doesn't disrupt the school or it's residents. They alert the Headmistress before they begin their mating urge, so that accomodations can be made, and they never take a bonded male.
