The child was treated in horrible ways that denied them of their basic human rights such as dignity, privacy, and autonomy. Particularly severe levels of such inhumane treatment can include intentional starvation, bodily disfigurement, killing or harming beloved pets in front of them, or forcing them to witness the harsh physical or sexual abuse of their friends or siblings. Acts of intentional humiliation or degradation such as forcing them to sleep outside or in the basement also qualify. Intentional emotional abuse and dehumanization, often combined with at least one other form of abuse also at its highest level, is characteristic of some of the worst cases of child abuse ever recorded.
