A call from Diya's "Mother."

← Back

The day after that whole episode at the brothel, near the end of the day you receive a buzz from Ms. Varano informing you that you have a phone call from “the mother of Diya Styles.” For a moment, you picture the somewhat more mature woman in the purple kimono who informed you she was the one Diya called “Mother,” her non-biological lesbian 2nd female parent, and you wonder why she would risk calling. A moment later though, you realize it likely is Janne Styles. As someone who doesn’t know about the lesbian nature of the Styles’ family parents, of course Ms. Varano would refer to her as Diya’s “mother.” Although, even with that logic, you still doubt yourself a little as you pick up the phone.

You thank Ms. Varano and pick up the line in your office. “Hello?” You speak to the person on the other end.

“Ah… hello,” comes the somewhat unsure reply. “Umm… Mr. Gardner, this is Diya’s mom, Janne.” Well, that’s confirmed at least.

“Ah, yes,” you reply. “My secretary said... uhh… Never-mind that,” you really don’t want to carelessly have Diya’s secret overheard. “Anyway, what did you want Ms. Styles?” After that big confrontation yesterday, you couldn’t help but feel a bit uncertain of what her response was going to be.

“Well, that’s just the thing,” she says. “I can’t really talk about this over the phone, but me, Mariette, and the girls have been talking and we would like you to come back to the brothel. We have something to talk to you about that, well, it’s better to talk about it in person. It’s about Diya, and… well, what we talked about yesterday.”

“Oh?” You respond, “well, that’s a little vague, you wouldn’t be planning some kind of lynch-mob the moment I get there, would you?”

“Oh, no,” she replies. “Well, it involves Diya’s punishments, I mean, how they will be handled in the future. It’s rather important… will you please come Mr. Gardner?”
