Might I suggest a template with a picture of a clock? If you have a lot of scenes at school you can use that to do nothing but the bell rings for time shifts and scene changes, like when she tells him to read and then suddenly school is done for the day. Just a way to break the flow of the conversation to show a shift is all. Clock with the bell ringing, then teacher telling them that's all for today here's you assignment.
