So first of all, this "game" has been going on for a long time. If you want a lesson in history and local mythology, ask my grandmother or me. We will loan you the book she wrote a decade or so ago, so you can read it whenever. It will teach nothing to you about how to play this game, but it might be an interesting read. Or it might bore you, I dunno.
Similarly, all of the rules, along with explanations of what may happen if you break them, will be in this booklet. It's also written by my grandmother, meant for the Star-Bearer's eyes only. It's a long read, so it might take some memorizing, but it may provide further context on some topics. It's yours to keep. What you do with it is your decision, but I recommend you read it at least once at some point and keep it hidden and somewhere safe in your room. Or scan it with your Smartphone if you want to, so you can easily have it on hand if you need it.
Other than that, use protection if you don't want to get pregnant. Don't get caught - unless you want to - and don't get yourself raped or murdered, okay?
Here are some key points from that rule booklet thingie. Read it. Memorize it. Use its contents to your advantage, and enforce the rules to get what you want from your partners. Or don't. If you prefer to have them control you, you can pretty much just forget about the rules and let them have their way with you. No right or wrong way to go about it, but please make sure you're having fun. You can even break the rules on purpose if you like getting into trouble. You're your own person, so make your own decisions.
- Typically, only children can be Star-Bearers. However, this is not a rule, and there are allowed to be exceptions. There are no gender restrictions regarding who can be a Star-Bearer.
- Star-Bearers may be approached by people of all ages, children and adults alike. The person approaching the Star-Bearer does not have to be wearing one themselves when they do.
- While everybody within the village is expected to know the rules in order to partake in the game, the main responsibility of their enforcement falls upon the Star-Bearers.
- If the Star-Bearer enforces their right to self-determination in accordance with the two sets of "Game Rules" listed further down below, the person taking advantage of them must stop what they are doing immediately or risk serious punishment.
- If the Star-Beater fails or decides not to enforce their right to self-determination, read the next rule for instructions.
- "The Spirit of the Law" in the case of every rule is having fun and feeling good. This has to be true for everyone involved, not just one party. "The fun" can be met with hesitation and reluctance, but if those feelings of uncertainty don't turn into positive ones through the length of the act, the spirit of the law has been violated. The sexual act will then be considered non-consensual, and the offender will be punished.
- In other words: "No harm, no foul." As long as everyone involved can be considered to be having fun and enjoying themselves, no rule can be considered broken, and no punishment can take place.
COLOR CODES
★ Star-Bearer is looking for a male partner.
★ Star-Bearer is looking for a female partner.
★ Star-Bearer has no gender preference.
★ Star-Bearer has been marked for punishment, meaning disciplinary action can be taken, as well as forced upon them.
DIFFERENT SYMBOLS
★ Star-Bearer is signaling interest in casual sex.
♡ Star-Bearer is looking for a long-term partner.
♢ Star-Bearer is signaling interest in casual sex on top of announcing they're open to suggestions and trying out new things.
♤ Star-Bearer is willing to take orders as a make-believe slave.
♧ Star-Bearer is willing to take orders as a make-believe pet.
GAME RULES FOR STAR-BEARERS
- The Star-Bearer may not advertise the game to those "not in the know", especially not to outsiders. They must also not seek out partners, and instead must always have the potential partners approach them. The star and its counterparts are quiet, silent signals for those in the know, and ONLY for those in the know.
- Once discovered wearing a star or any of its counterparts, the Star-Bearer must perform a sexual act. The Star-Bearer is allowed to have some boundaries, but they are also under a duty to serve their dates somehow. The Star-Bearer can refuse service if there is a danger of getting caught, when already claimed by somebody else, and when their consent and boundaries are not being respected.
- Once discovered wearing a star, the Star-Bearer is not allowed to ask for a monetary or otherwise physical payment in return for their service. After discovery, the partner already has a right to a service, so to demand payment can be considered a refusal of service. Payments can still be taken if offered, but this must be initiated by the partner.
- The Star-Bearer is not allowed to use their star as means of luring other people into legal trouble, physical danger, and especially not mortal danger.
- The Star-Bearer may only "mark" and draw on themselves.
GAME RULES FOR THE "PTA" (Person Taking Advantage)
- The PTA may not advertise the game to those not in the know, especially not to outsiders. They may not tell anyone where to find Star-Bearers, and they may not reveal their identities to outsiders either.
- The PTA must respect the Star-Bearer's consent and always make their intentions known. Consent does not have to be signaled verbally, but the PTA is obligated to listen to verbal cues like "No" and "Stop", and STOP if the Star-Bearer appears to feel uncomfortable. Violation of consent will always be penalized.
- The PTA may not force, manipulate, gaslight, or otherwise trick the Star-Bearer into doing something that crosses their personal boundaries. Violation of consent will always be penalized.
- If given permission, the PTA can take, receive, save, and transfer pictures and videos on various devices, but ONLY with the Bearer's consent. However, the PTA cannot use media as means of blackmail or threatening exposure, nor upload this media on the internet where it can be spread uncontrollably.
- The PTA must respect the Star-Bearer's right to NOT wear a star. The PTA is not allowed to force, manipulate, gaslight, or otherwise trick anyone into wearing a star or any of its counterparts, for the PTA has no authority over the matter. The Star-Bearer's service is a privilege, not a right, and they have the final say on what is drawn on their skin and when. Violation of consent will always be penalized.
PUNISHMENTS FOR STAR-BEARERS
If the Star-Bearer violates one of their five rules, and the PTA feels that their rights have been violated, the Star-Bearer may receive one of the two possible punishments. The length of the punishment will depend on the severity of the violation and on the mood of the gods on any given day.
- The Curse of the Black Star is the most common punishment given to the Star-Bearers upon rule violation. While the Curse is in effect, the Star-Bearer must wear a Black Star, automatically giving anyone who discovers it a right to perform sexual acts without permission. The gods will remove the Curse once they determine that the Star-Bearer has had enough, and once they do, the punishment must stop. The Curse will also disappear after a timed period, varying anywhere from one second to several weeks, after which it can be safely removed by the Star-Bearer.
- The Star-Bearers who cannot be trusted with playing the game safely and responsibly, and those who try to get others in trouble on purpose, may forcefully be expelled from the game. The Curse of Expulsion will make it impossible for them to bear or even perceive marks, effectively making participation impossible.
PUNISHMENTS FOR THE "PTA" (Person Taking Advantage)
When the PTA violates one of the five rules given to them after the Star-Bearer enforces their right to self-determination, the PTA will be punished. There is no absolute rule book on what kind of punishment will take place, but some punishments include:
- Curse of Expulsion that "blinds" them to the game.
- Curse of the Black Star may be placed on them either as a warning or as an attempt to have them taste some of their own medicine.
- The gods may expose their crimes and violations to the wider community in an attempt to have them ostracized or even arrested.
- In extreme cases, the gods will use their ability to manipulate nature and its extra-legal inhabitants to have the violator killed.
