She's definitely just going to lie her way out of it if you push her, but by the things she said you think Sonia must know what's really going on. You'll just ask her later, with her compulsive honesty you know for certain you will get the full truth out of her.
"Alright, well, I guess I have good news and bad news for you in that case. The good news is that Sonia is probably going to be taken out of Mr. Loso's class, and it is not because of a punishment. It seems that girl is pretty advanced, she needs to be assessed and probably promoted by more than just one grade. The bad news is that the reason I found out about this is because she was cheating and doing the homework for a boy who was in Mr. Williamson's class last year, and it sounds like she was getting pretty good grades for him."
"Oh, so she was actually the one who filled out Elias' work?" Mr. Williamson responds as though it is only mildly surprising to him. "Yeah, the papers were well done, so I figured she was just handing them in for him because she knew him in person and was too lazy to hand them in to me."
"Wait, what!?" Maria snaps at him. "This has been going on since last year and you never even said anything!?"
"Well, how was I supposed to know? Like I said, the answers were almost always right and she was in fifth grade then. I wouldn't think she could do freshman work correctly at such a high rate, would you?"
"Don't you recognize your little sister-in-law's handwriting at least!?" She asks.
"Of course not, I don't pay that much attention to what other people write. And besides, I have all my students answer their homework on short-form scantrons, they are a lot easier to grade since the machine grades them for me. There's no actual writing involved."
"¡Ay, Dios Mío! Ahhh!" Maria says, and then smacks herself in the forehead and then keeps her face buried in her hand for a while. "Alright, well, just how bad of a violation IS this!? No, wait!!! I remember, cheating was considered a severe offense, wasn't it!?"
"Indeed" You respond. "Each individual instance of cheating is considered its own severe offense. I do not know how many papers she cheated on from last year, a few hundred maybe?" You say, glancing over to Mr. Williamson for confirmation. "I would say at least three hundred since there are papers for every class, right?"
"No way!" Maria bites her way in to interrupt. "This guy is way too lazy to assign that much work, even in an entire year. I know him well enough to realize that much. It's got to be less!"

- It won't count toward Sonia's punishment, but it matters for Elias' punishment
