Story

In first person, from Kate's point of view.

Prologue

I, Kate, a shy 10 year old girl, who very much dislikes change, was going into my room after a long day of running around outside. It was 7 PM, dinner was gonna be ready in an hour, so I decided to call my friend, Cindy. I used my mom's phone, because I was not old enough to have a phone, even though I was allowed to use my mom's phone whenever I wanted to.

She said it was because she didn't want me to see stuff I couldn't unsee, I didn't know what sex was, so I was confused at what she meant. I dialled my friend Cindy, who was 11, she had a phone though, I was kind of jealous of her. She was a very obedient girl, she would never disobey anyone, even if they were trying to kill her.

I was less obedient, I would often lie to get what I wanted, and always have some excuse not to do chores. Cindy answered the phone after about 2 minutes, it was rather long, but I ignored it. She sounded like she was crying, she said, "Hello, uhh, hi Kate, I am kinda busy right now, call you later." She hung up, but not before I heard a loud noise and she screamed through the phone.

I wondered for a few minutes about what was happening, and then I decided to find out. I ran out of my room and gave mom her phone back, I ran for the front door and didn't even get shoes on. I ran down the street, wanting to save my friend from whatever was hurting her, I made it to her house after a minute or so.

I heard a loud noise coming from inside, the door was unlocked so I went in, I went into the living room and almost screamed from what I saw. Cindy was laying on the floor, naked, beaten up, and her dad was above her with a baseball bat, hitting her. Cindy's mouth had duck tape on it so that she didn't scream, her dad was fully dressed.

None of her other family members were home at the time, I decided not to scream and announce my presence. I walked forward and went behind her dad, I grabbed a piece of wood that had broken off of the coffee table when he hit it with his bat. It wasn't that big, but it was big enough that I could hold it and slam it onto Cindy's dad's head.

He yelped a little, but unfortunately for me, he didn't pass out, he stood up and faced me, holding the bat like he was about to swing a ball out of the park. I froze in fear, he swung and it hit me in my side, I screamed from the pain, it made me launch sideways. I slid across the floor, before hitting my head on the wall, I passed out.

Prologue Part 2

"A time rift is opening on the surface! Get down there before anybody goes through it, from our end, or from the other side!" A superior officer warned a team going down to the surface of Earth. They made it down and closed the time rift, time travel was still in early developement in those days, the time rift that was created here, was an accident.

Before they managed to close it though, two girls came through, both unconscious, but not from the time travel, they were beaten up by someone. One of the officers on the team spoke into the comms system, "Sir, we have a problem, two girls from the other end came through, they are pretty badly injured, also they are both naked."

A response came from the other side, "Do you know what time they are from?" The officer examined the girls, careful not to touch them, so that they didn't wake up.

"Umm, one has a watch, which is still working, they are from... 19 hundred 36 hours, April 17th, 2020."

"2020? THAT FAR BACK? WE DON'T EVEN HAVE MUCH SPACE TRAVEL THAT FAR BACK, WE NEED TO MAKE SURE THEY DON'T WAKE UP!" It was 2876 at the time, they took the girls to a hospital and treated them. They started working faster on getting time travel to work better so that they could get the girls back as soon as possible.
