Attribute Ranges

  • Body: Extreme to Divine (10-12)
  • Mind: Superb to Supreme (7-11)
  • Spirit: Superb to Supreme (7-11)

Abilities

  • Armored Skin: Dragon scales are the strongest natural substance in the world. Most weapons cannot hope to penetrate them.
  • Claws: Dragon claws are like swords.
  • Dragon Gold: Gold in a dragon's horde is slowly cursed by the dragon's presence. The gold instills greed in the owner, and if their is enough will slowly turn the owner into a dragon themselves. Small amounts of dragon gold have a very diminished effect. The effect also wears off the longer it is away from a dragon; eventually becoming normal gold.
  • Dragon Sleep: Dragons can hibernate at will to stave off the need to hunt. Most dragons spend the majority of their time hibernating. The older the dragon, the longer they can hibernate. A heraldic dragon can hibernate for 20-100 years or so.
  • Enhanced Hearing: Dragons have amazing hearing, and can pick up on the smallest sound.
  • Enhanced Sight: Dragons have amazing eyesight, seeing better and farther than even hawks.
  • Enhanced Smell: Dragons have a keen sense of smell, exceeding even canines.
  • Flame Breath: Heraldic dragons can breath flame. Their flame breath is the hottest and deadliest of all dragons.
  • Horns: Dragon horns are like lances.
  • Immune to Flame: Heraldic dragons are immune to the detrimental effects of flames and heat.
  • Infrasonic Hearing: Dragons have the ability to hear tones that are lower pitched than humans can hear.
  • Infravision: Dragons have the ability to see in the infrared spectrum (heat).
  • Sharp Teeth: Dragon teeth are like swords.
  • Ultrasonic Hearing: Dragons have the ability to hear tones that are higher pitched than humans can hear.
  • Weaponized Tail: A dragon's tail can be used as a weapon. Some dragons have spikes or blades on their tails; others use them to bludgeon.
  • Winged Flight: Heraldic dragons can fly on leathery wings. While not as fast as a wyvern or amphiptere dragon, they can easily outpace any land steed.

Biology

Appearance

Heraldic dragons are massive reptile-like creatures. A heraldic dragon is distinguished from other western dragons in that it has four limbs and a pair of wings.

  • Length: Dragons grow as they age. You rarely find an adult heraldic dragon less than 40' long tail to snout. Heraldic dragons can get truly massive, however measuring hundreds or even thousands of feet long.
  • Weight: Heraldic dragons weigh so much there is little use trying to monitor this. Make your best guess. It should be in tons though.
  • Build: Heraldic dragons are massive and muscular. They are never fat or flabby.
  • Bust: Female heraldic dragons do not have breasts.
  • Penis: Heraldic dragons have the most massive penises of any dragon. Like all dragons, their penises are retractable and armored with a pointed head and a ridge of smooth knobs along the top. Heraldic dragon penises are at least 2' long, and grow as they do. Finding a heraldic dragon with a penis as large as a human or larger is relatively easy.
  • Skin: Heraldic Dragons have pink or black skin under scales that tend to be shades of red, brown, or black. In heraldic dragons with mixed blood one can occasionally find scales of green, blue, gray or white.
  • Hair: Dragons don't have hair.
  • Eyes: Heraldic dragons have slitted, serpent-like eyes. They are generally shades of yellow, green, red or black.
  • Other details:

Genders

Like all dragons, heraldic dragons can be male or female.

  • In the absence of an appropriate mate, dragons can switch genders over the course of a year. The dragon can halt the transformation of genders halfway through to become hermaphroditic.
    • Dragons only do this in desperation in order to self-impregnate.
    • The hermaphroditic gender is unstable, requiring a great deal of effort to maintain. For this reason dragons change to female as soon as they have successfully self-impregnated.

Reproduction

Dragons reproduce sexually.

  • Dragons can cross with any being capable of sexual reproduction.
  • Dragons are egg layers.
  • When another dragon can't be found, a dragon can self-impregnate.
  • Dragons take a full year to lay their eggs. There are generally one to three eggs in a clutch.
  • Dragon eggs take another full year to hatch.

Age

Dragons age much slower than humans.

  • Dragon ages can be calculated by multiplying their age were they human by 25.
  • A dragon that is entering adolescence would be around 250-300 years old.
  • Upon reaching maturity (around 450 years old) the dragon only grows bigger and stronger. This growth slows as they age, but never stops. Dragons never grow weak from age, and never die from aging.

Diet

Dragons are carnivores.

  • Dragons will eat just about any meat.
  • Dragons prefer large prey like horses, cattle, elephants and the like.
  • Dragons prefer not to eat other dragons if it can be helped.

Other Considerations

  • A heraldic dragon's blood will harden a mortal's skin to dragon-like strength if bathed in. If a spot is missed or covered it becomes a weak point, however. Dragon parts (blood, teeth, scales, claws, etc.) are highly prized an can fetch a kings ransom when sold.

Spirituality

Worship

Dragons do not worship any gods.

  • Some dragon gods exist in non-dragon pantheons.
  • These dragon gods were dispatched with the others in the god war.

Afterlife

There is no dragon afterlife.

Other Considerations

Magic and Technology

Magic

Dragons are highly magical, and can learn magic quite easily.

  • Dragons all have the potential for sorcery.
  • While dragons are fully capable of becoming very skilled at magic, most don't see the point with how fearsome their physical power is.

Technology

Dragons do not learn or use technology.

Culture

Taboos

Dragons have no specific cultural taboos

Residence

Heraldic dragons reside in large caves, mines, or volcanos.

  • Dragons horde gold and other wealth in their residence.
  • Dragons throw the remains from their feeding to the entrance(s) or their residence to ward off interlopers.

Other Considerations

  • Dragons are attracted by, and therefore vulnerable to, virgin maidens; often kidnapping them and keeping them as pets. The presence of the virgins puts them at ease. A dragon would never destroy that peace by allowing the girl to lose her virginity, nor take it themselves.
