This is the act of changing history. By crossing one time dimension and altering something in the past, the time-traveler can create an entire alternate version of events exactly as they would be if they had made that other choice from the beginning. Once a time-traveling being alters the past in this way, everyone, including the time-traveler, will think the new course of time is the way things have always been. As such, a time-traveler who makes a 5D alteration will not even be aware that they did so.

Contrary to what one might thing, it is actually incredibly hard to alter the time-line in this manner. This is due to there being 2 time dimensions, the one that most 3D beings are aware of as well as a second one that serves as a buffer to prevent paradoxes. The second time-dimension, the 6D version of a choice alteration, will activate automatically at the will of the universe if the time-traveler changed the past because they were displeased with how things are now, or cause any other form of causality paradox.
