God’s Compensation/At least try

Well, you don’t want to just give up or ask for another demonstration, that would just make you look weak. You were the one who said you wanted to do this, so you damn well better at least make an attempt at doing it yourself.

Ok, focus. It felt like your legs were moving and holding still at the same time. It felt like you were moving at something like a 45 degree angle from the direction you were facing, and also like you were in an elevator going down at the same time. Odd, you didn’t remember the elevator feeling until you started trying to reproduce the effect.

Ok then, so how about trying to get back to your previous location? Of course it would follow for that you need to go at a 45 degree angle with the sensation of an elevator going up? Ok, lets try this. You focus hard on the movement of your legs, and you also imagine the ground raising beneath your feet to carry you upward. In your mind, you take a step, and then suddenly everything goes quiet.

What the hell just happened? You have never heard a silence so startling before. One second you could hear the distant sound of cars on the road, the constant white noise of the city. Now, not only was that gone, but you also could no longer hear even the sound of leaves rustling in the wind. You couldn’t quite place it, but there also seemed to be some kind of eerie stillness to everything.

“Well, not quite what we were trying to do, but this is good too.” You hear Mr. Austin’s voice break the absolute stillness and silence, and also making you nearly jump out of your skin. You spin around quickly to look in the direction of the voice and the first thing you see is a man standing mere inches in front of you. Your faces are practically touching. No, this close, they SHOULD be touching, but for some reason you don’t feel any physical contact.

“Ugh!” You grunt out in surprise and jump several steps backward. Suddenly you realize this other person you saw was actually YOU! You see a perfect duplicate of yourself, his eyes are half closed and angled slightly downward as though in intense concentration, a perfect representation of what you were doing just seconds ago. Having confirmed this, you start looking around to find where Mr. Austin’s voice had come from, and you quickly locate 2 of him. One is in the exact place he was standing before when you were trying to take a 4D step, and he was holding perfectly still in the same way as your own double was. This one’s face showed a gentle interest as it watched your frozen double focus on its task. The other, he was walking a few steps away from his double and was looking straight at the real you while keeping a respectful distance.

“You stepped out of the time-stream,” he said. “You can go backward or forward in time now. It actually is a lot like walking in the 4th dimension, it is just the first step out of the time-stream that is a little different.”

So, time is frozen right now? And you also have the ability to go forward or backward in time?

“So, we have our options now,” Mr. Austin says. “Do you want to skip a lesson and start dealing with the 6th dimension? Or do you want to step back into the time-stream and try again with 4D travel?
