Strolling through your neighborhood, already regretting not wearing shorts on a hot day, you see the door to the Callahan residence wide open. You assume that means someone must be home so you turn up their driveway and poke your head in the front door.

"Hello?" you call out half-heartedly.

"Who is it?" you hear Mrs. Callahan shout back.

You take a step inside and close the door to a crack behind you. "Riley, from down the street."

"Riley? Oh, hi!" Carol exclaims, whipping around the corner in a frenzy. "Don't mind me, just having a minor meltdown here. Did you need something?"

You nod, watching her race about. "Something to do actually. I'm trying to do odd jobs over the summer an-"

"THAT'S PERFECT!"

"Wha...?" you respond, taken off guard.

"I'm trying to get out of here and my regular sitter isn't available. Kyli is in her room and Larissa is down here coloring. Sweetie," she continues, dipping around the corner for a moment. "I'm heading out. Riley is in charge, okay?"

"Okay," replies the disinterested girl.

"Thank you so much Riley," she says, rushing toward you.

You almost forgot that her kids were homeschooled, let alone that she had two kids. Bree has played with them on occasion but if you remember right they're all in different grades so they see each other very irregularly.

"Mrs. Callahan, I wa-"

"Please, call me Carol." She stuffs a small wad of twenties into your hand before adding, "I'll be gone for a couple of hours. Thank you so much for this. I owe you one!"

With that she practically jumps out of the door, leaving it open yet again. You close it for her and stand with a fistful of twenties slightly dumbfounded. Considering you can barely remember anything about this family you're surprised that Carol seems to remember you so well. You aren't exactly an engaged member of the community.

You pocket your wages and slowly walk into the house.
