“No, actually, I was planning to walk.” You inform her.
“Oh, ok,” she says, “well, you have fun with that. I’ll keep everyone in line for you while you are gone.”
“Right, sounds good,” you shoot back while sliding on your shoes. “You’re in charge.” This gets Brittany silently laughing and shaking her head in a happy yet unsettled manner. It looks like she is having some conflicted emotions about ceeding her role in the family to you. Even with that being the case though, those are issues she is going to have to work through on her own, nothing you can do about it. Settling that in your mind, you make your way right out the door.
The hot afternoon sun beats down on you, and you are forced to wonder why it is that you are wearing your calf-length black coat in this kind of weather. It doesn’t seem to bother you that much, you guess you got some extra heat and cold tolerance out of your all-around personal upgrades, but it still is probably strange to be wearing something like this on a day like today. At any rate, you like it, and proceed to march your way down the residential streets of your peaceful neighborhood of the large town/small city you live in. These back streets are practically a labyrinth, an intentional design by the city planners to break up the monotony of having a grid-design. A grid may be a more space efficient design, but it just doesn’t really look that pretty. This being a slightly more upscale sub-urban neighborhood, the streets were intentionally designed to not go straight for too long so as to always give the residents something pleasant to look at rather than just a long road with houses and drive-ways lining the side. Instead, if you look to the left or the right you will see a little of that, but eventually you look at a house with some nice late 20th century architecture right in front of you.
Another thing these winding roads do is that they deter gawkers and out-of-area criminals. Since the roads are so convoluted, the only way you will know your way around them is if you live in the area, therefore someone who comes in from out of the area is better off not venturing into the neighborhood lest they get lost.
You can hear the cars in the distance of the busy main road as you begin to draw near. This is one of a few main roads that criss-cross and break up the residential districts. On the other side of it is another residential district. However, this is the road you are gonna need to follow in order to get to your ultimate destination at the police station. Just as you are getting up to the street though, you see a young blond-haird boy in a familiar looking green hoody short-sleeve that makes your heart almost skip a beat in the surprise of the moment. What’s going on? He shouldn’t be here.
“Hey!” You call out, causing him to turn his light blue eyes toward you. He lets out a gasp, and then takes off running in the direction he was going before, exactly the opposite direction of the police station.
What do you do?
