Around the birth of August, his 10th child, Chris was beginning to become aware of the lamentable fact that he was a little distant from his children as he could not possibly keep up with the lives of all his children in such a large family. Despite this, having started off saying to Lynn that he wanted a large family and the fact that she still wanted to keep up making more children made him feel trapped to continuing to make more kids with her.

Chris wishes he had a better relationship with his children, but has resigned himself to the idea that that is close to impossible when balancing his work with his home life and so he hardly interacts with them outside of discipline, planing events, or occasionally watching a TV show with some of them.

Possibly another reason why Chris continued to have such a large family is because he is so strongly anti-abortion that he doesn't approve of any form of hormonal birth control or the use of IUDs due to the fact that these function by preventing fertilized embryos from implanting onto the walls of the uterus. He views Diaphraghms and Condoms as less morally wrong, but grapples over the sin of Onan as it is used by the Catholic Church to declare masturbation is wrong. A vasectomy or a historectomy are the only forms of birth control he would have no religious based objection to, but of course those methods wouldn't be allowed with his and Lynn's desire for more children.
