“Well, one of them actually gave me her business card,” you tell her, “so it ought to be pretty easy to get information on that.”
“Really!” Brittany says, “Well, that’s great! You should probably give her a call then.”
“Yeah,” you say, “Just got to give her time to get back to the station and process the fall-out from the mess at the park.”
“Yeah! That would be great!” she says, “I think this will really help you become a better person bro, then I won’t have to worry about you quite as much!”
“Eh.. hehe,”
“come on, put that buffed up body of yours to good use. Anyway, eat your sandwich before it gets cold.”
“Yes mother...” you respond not quite ironically. Brittany seems to take the comment in stride as always.
“Speaking of that,” she says, “mom hasn’t been causing too much trouble for you, has she? Hasn’t been getting on you too much or anything?”
“Well, she does lecture me a lot more now about looking out for Roni than she did before,” you tell her.
“Yeah, that figures. Is that all?”
“Yeah, that’s about it.”
“Oh my GOD!” You hear from upstairs, followed by a flurry of foot-traffic down to the kitchen as you see Charity followed by Roni scamper into the room. “Xander! Did you really beat up a police man because he was messing with Roni!?”
“Uhh...”
“Yeah, he was just telling us all about it!” Brittany says.
“He really really did!” Roni supports.
“I wish I would have been there to see it,” Bastian laments.
“You had BETTER tell me what happened,” she says, “I want to know if I have to go in and finish kicking this a-hole’s ass!”
You chuckle briefly at the pleasant change of pace from how things usually go between you and Charity and then recount the story again of how you pinned Billy’s dad to the bleachers and then how you called for back-up and HE got carted away, adding this time how you even capped it off by signing police statements to be sure all the evidence is recorded.
“So,” you conclude, “I’m pretty sure this guy’s ass is grass already, no need for you to add your 2 cents.”
“Don’t tell me what to do!” She bites. Well, now THAT’S the Charity you know. “That bastard was screwing with my sister! I have half a mind to go and castrate the misogynistic bastard! Turn him into a girl and see how he likes it!”
WOW! You’re glad that venom is not directed at you!
“I know!” She says, “let’s find out where he lives, then show him who he’s messing with.”
“That’s stalking, and that’s illegal. Not to mention assault. You’re going to get yourself arrested at this rate.” You caution your twin sister, getting an almost smug grin from your older sister in reward.
“Yeah, Xander might be the one to arrest you himself at this rate,” Brittany beams. “It sounds like they want him to join up after how he handled himself there.”
“This spineless wimp?” Charity says while adding a playful punch to your deltoid along with her not-so-playful scorning of your capabilities. “They got the wrong guy if they think Xander can amount to anything. You may be strong Xander, but let’s face it, you can’t do jack!”
“Yeah he can!” Roni shrieks at her, “Xander was really cool when he took that guy down!”
“That’s just once!” Charity bites back, “I bet he folds under pressure the next time.”
