You pull out your cellphone and make a call.
"Hey boss, yeah its me Jessica. Listen, I'm not feeling too well today so I think I'm going to take the day off okay?" You say with a slight tremor in your voice, to really sell it.
"That's very inconvenient Jessica, I really need you today. But I guess it can't be helped", he says, irritably.
"Thanks a lot, I promise to make it up later this week. I just feel terrible right now.".
