The viscous Darth Maul and the wicked Asasjj Ventress ring in the minds of those who picture the Zabrak. Their fearsome looking horns are their best-known trait, but there’s plenty more to these carnivorous Near-Human Iridonians.
Zabrak are very human in their appearance but have some key differences to their anatomy. The most obvious is their horns, which form a sort of crown on the top of their head. These horns grow out when they reach puberty and this is about the time, they enter a rite of passage. This rite is where they get their facial tattoos, which symbolize many things about the individual. Zabrak also have two hearts and a great resilience to pain.
The horns are one of Zabraks’ most variable traits, and they have a great amount of variation available. These could include different skin tones (which included peachy white, pure white, yellow, red, tan, brown and black), horn patterns, hair growth (though it should be noted that most Zabraks, unlike Humans, could not grow eyelashes or facial hair – there were some exceptions, who had eyebrows) and eye color (which have certain pigmentations that Humans lack, such as purple, yellow, red, and orange). Two primary subspecies exists; the first are the Iridonians who are the most common, especially on the harsh homeworld with its acid pools and fertile canyons; the second is the result of interbreeding with humans and hail from the Planet of the Witches, Dathomir, and have females without horns.
The Zabrak are, according to Ashaa aka the Mother Machine, are synthetic life forms created by the Rakata. If so, this places them between 30,000 and 25,200 BBY, making them a very old species. Regardless, Zabraks are one of the earliest spacefaring species in the galaxy and are a proud people. This often results in a single-minded self-assuredness, where they believe that they can do anything and strive to prove skeptics wrong at every turn. This can result in a sort of superiority complex towards other races. The Zabraks believed that the various experiences of the different colonies only served to add to the race's overall value throughout the galaxy. Iridonian Zabrak are the most war like, with young folks being required to learn their unique, physical martial art, but those of the colony worlds have many strives and encourage self-expression among children.
