"I can't help it," you say. "It's not something you can just make happen, and you can't just make it go away either.
“If I tell you something, can you keep it a secret,” she says. Of course, you assure her that you’d never repeat anything she told you if she didn’t want you to. She rambles on a bit about some sleepover and says that her friend Kayla told her something that she promised never to tell anyone. “Apart from mom, you don’t know her or anyone she knows, so it should be okay," she says.
"Go on; you know I keep secrets."
She takes a deep breath; “Kayla’s got a brother a couple of years older and they’ve been doing it.”
She says it fast with the words all running into each other and you’re not sure she said what you think she said; “pardon,” you say.
"Kayla and her brother; they've had sex together. she says they did it a couple of weeks ago but only the once because they’re scared of getting caught.”
“Was she okay about it,” you ask; “and what do you think?”
Katie thinks for a minute. “She said it was okay, but they didn’t really know what they were doing even though they’ve been looking at porn on his computer.” She looks up at you. “Did you ever think about me like that,” she asks.
You shake your head but then… “Maybe; when you were little and I was a lot younger,” you say, feeling yourself go red.
“I remember that you used to cuddle me a lot, but then you stopped; why was that?”
You shrug. “It’s just that you were getting bigger and mom started giving me funny looks.”
Katie goes quiet for a while, obviously thinking. “So what about now; I know you were looking at me, and your thingy swelled up like in the park with those girls. It's all very confusing.”
