TVR/The Village

Introduction

This story is set in an English Village in the early 1960s when attitudes were very different from today. Middle-class parents spent very little time with their children, and all children had a great deal more freedom to experiment, test themselves, and get up to mischief. The wealthier men travelled to work in the city on the train, and most of the others worked on the land, while the women stayed at home. The children who lived in the village went to the local primary school until they were ten and then had to catch a bus to the nearest town for either the grammar school or the secondary school.
