The dim lights of the restaurant added to the ambience as I sat in my booth near the back of the establishment an almost empty basket of fries in front of me. As October finally showed its face in town, the place was already decorated for Halloween, even with it only being the first week of the month. There were die cut cardboard pictures of witches and ghosts and pumpkins and black cats that looked like they came straight from an elementary school’s decoration closet. The feeling of nostalgia was overwhelming, in a good way. Content that I didn’t feel like eating the rest of my fries, I decided to throw away the leftovers and headed back towards my bike, with a big basket attached to front, waiting to be occupied by a big, healthy pumpkin.

I’m already 15, but I don’t mind showing some Halloween spirit from time to time, and live only a few hours away from a massive pumpkin patch just outside of town. As I neared the pumpkin patch, I could see some small families and couples wandering the field searching for a pumpkin right for them. I took a deep breath of cool, autumn air and made my way to the entrance of the pumpkin patch.

After gandering at a few pumpkins that I thought would be decent choices for a radical Jack-o-lantern, a young girl bumped into me and fell lightly on her bottom with a sound escaping her mouth like a woof. “Goodness!” I blurted out, caught by surprise. I bent down and reached out to help her up. I guessed she was somewhere around 10 or 11 years old. “T-Thank you mister.” She winced, as she held onto my hand for support. “I should have watched where I was going I’m sorry-“ I waved it off, “No worries kid, I’m all good, you okay?” Once she was on her feet, she brushed off her pants and apologized again, I reassured the girl that everything was all good and she didn’t need to worry about anything.
