I think that with his mother's position and previous ambition, "basic" social etiquette would have been something he learned so as not to offend his mother's friends, peirs and bosses. Walking out of a room mid conversation without asking about why your doing so or simply saying "Would you like a moment alone." would qualify as "basic" etiquette. It's the more advanced skill Jack is lacking. | |||
