"Alright, the deal sounds fair," you say. "I'm in."

"Alright then," she relies happily, "I'll take the first flight out'o Dublin. I should be at yer house this evenin', darlin'." She turns and begins to fade.

"Wait," you call after her receding form, "I don't remember my dreams that well."

"Oh you'll remember this one, boyo," she says just before she disappears.

* * *

What a strange dream. You wake to your mother's cell phone alarm . . . which reminds you that your cell phone is likely going off in your room right now. You kiss your mother on the neck and she sighs contentedly and turns her head to face you.

"Good morning Chad," she says, giving you a loving kiss.

"Morning mom."

"I'm glad you stayed with me tonight."

"Of course I stayed," you say, "you're my wife in all but name."

She blushes a bit, then says, "You need to get ready for school."

"Okay," you reply, getting up from the bed. Looking back at the queen sized bed you add, "We're going to need a bigger bed."

"What for?" asks your mother.

"Gwen, remember mom. I assume you're okay with her sleeping with us?"

"Of course, I wasn't thinking about that. Not today though. You have to go grocery shopping remember? We'll all pick one out this weekend."

"Alright. I'm off."

You get up and go back to your room. Entering the room you immediately see a piece of rolled parchment on your bed. You turn off your alarm, then carefully approach it. Using two pencils you unroll it. In a fancy old-looking script font it reads:

This Mystical Contract is Valid in all Realms.

I, Chadwick James Fletcher, being of sound body, mind, and spirit, hereby enter into alliance with Maebh Sionade Darcy as set forth by the ancient tenants of The One God. I enter into this contract freely, and do so without any intent to deceive or deny the alliance. I shall abide by the ancient laws of The One God in all things related to the contract, and shall make no effort to pervert the sanctity of those conditions. I shall, therefore, abide by the following conditions on the sanctity of my soul:

  1. That insomuch as is possible, and within the ancient laws of The One God and my own moral character, I shall use my powers to fulfill the requests of Maebh Sionade Darcy in a timely manner.
  2. That I shall not make any attempt to take, or allow to be taken through inaction power that is hers, or in her possession.
  3. That I shall not attempt to circumvent the alliance by causing harm to, or through intentional inaction allow harm to be caused to Maebh Sionade Darcy, and that I shall protect her with all of my power.

In return for these deeds I understand that Maebh Sionade Darcy shall abide by the following conditions on the sanctity of her soul:

  1. That she shall provide me with instruction and assistance in all thing magical as the need arises or as I ask of her as her apprentice by the ancient laws of mystical stewardship.
  2. That she shall not make any attempt to take, or allow to be taken through inaction power that is mine, or in my possession.
  3. That she shall not attempt to circumvent the alliance by causing harm to, or through intentional inaction allow harm to be caused to me, and that she shall protect me with all of her power.

I so swear by the ninety-nine names of The One God and the tenants of the old laws.

In my blood I so swear:Chadwick James Fletcher

(Chadwick James Fletcher)

In my blood I too swear:Maebh Sionade Darcy

(Maebh Sionade Darcy)

Maebh's signature appears to be in blood. On the rather old style document is a very new style post-it note reading:

Sign the document in your blood and the agreement is complete.

-Maebh

So it wasn't a dream after all. You aren't sure how you're going to sign it with your Superman-like invulnerability, unless . . . of course, you can probably ask your blood to come out; carefully of course. The question is do you really want to sign the contract. It seems to be in order. It's what you talked about be with added measures that ensure that you protect one another and don't steal each other's powers. You'd feel better about it if you knew what the ancient tenants of The One God and the ancient laws of mystical stewardship were.
