Mitch has always been the responsible child in the family. He had a little trouble growing up with his mixed heritage of an African-American father and a Caucasian/Native American mother, but he made due, and made sure his sisters didn't have to deal with any of it. Mitch has always been a hard worker, and did well in school, earning a full ride to College. He was in his fourth year of a mechanical engineering program when his parents we're killed in a car accident, and returned home to take care of his sisters. He got a job with a company that services high tech factory equipment for the area under the understanding that he complete his degree. He was chosen over other applicants that already had their degree based on the strength of his interview. True to his word, he finished the courses he needed online wile working his job, earning a Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering. His job has him working long hours maintaining factory equipment that is too sophisticated to be handled in-house, and performing service calls for equipment that requires repair.

Mitch takes on a lot of overtime hours to meet, and even exceed, the needs of his family. He felt it was necessary when he first started working since he was getting starting pay , and supporting a family that was used to pay from a skilled worker with over twenty-five years on the job. Now that he has been working well for three years and has his degree, he is making really good money, and doesn't really need to work so much overtime, but it has become second nature of him to do so.

Mitch is a very heavy sleeper, and could probably sleep through an earthquake or bombing. Dana and Rocky have taken advantage of this fact to sneak out of the house regularly.
