The night was quiet in the city of Tyerse, capitol of the human kingdom of Venran residing near the beginning of the Priah river north of the Internal Sea. The citizens who were still awake were either heading home or were already there and just now going to sleep, leaving most of the streets empty with the exception of patrolling city guardsmen. There was, however, one soul who was wide awake and just getting her evening started.
Luneiris, or Luna for short, was perched on the edge of a rooftop, peering into the street below to wait for the patrol to pass. She was a young dark elf, very close to reaching puberty but not quite there yet, had dark purple skin, violet eyes, and flowing white hair. In other words, your typical dark elf. As the patrolmen turned around the corner she stood up and gracefully jumped to the rooftops across the street, her black cloak flaring out behind her and showing off her simple blue tunic, brown trousers, and black boots. Not the most flattering attire but the young elf didn't plan on being seen so looks didn't matter to her.
Landing without a sound Luneiris continued to scamper across the rooftops, keeping her eyes peeled for any torch light from the streets and alleyways below. Luna was an odd one, she's always been fascinated by the human city that lived above her, but was incredibly shy around others and turned down any offer by her parents to stay up late and accompany them above ground during the day, the thought of being surrounded by a whole city's worth of stranger terrifying her. But a burning curiosity urged her to go see it, so she developed a plan.
While her parents were busy with work and believed her to be off playing somewhere Luna would go to an old forgotten tunnel she found once and started to venture up to the surface, knowing that since humans weren't nocturnal like most dark elves she could hide in the darkness of the night and avoid being seen. It worked perfectly and she's been exploring the vast human capitol for several weeks now, finding something new to see each time. And tonight was no different as she ran across the tops of shops and houses, her natural elven graces keeping her from making barely a sound as she did so.
What Luna didn't know was that tonight was the night of the annual Autumn Festival, a tradition dating back to the Harvest Festivals of when Tyerse was just a riverside farming town, only instead of celebrating a harvest the Autumn Festival celebrated the changing of the seasons from summer to fall and began on the midnight hour. All the people sleeping would soon wake up to finish preparations started that morning while everyone else takes a nap so they have the energy to enjoy the festival. Shops will set up booths, businesses will reopen as free attractions, games will be played in the streets, even the royal family will partake in the festivities by giving a speech and hosting a feast in the town square. A massive party for all to enjoy.
A party that poor Luneiris didn't account for in her plans.
But until then, where is she heading tonight?
