“Ok, let’s head home.” You say, offering your hand to your little sister. You are tired from all that nonsense and just want to put this behind you.
“Ok,” she croaks as she takes your hand. She is quiet for a little while, she seems like she has a lot on her mind, but several steps later she seems to have gathered some of her thoughts into words. “Hey Xander?” She asks, “did that police man get arrested?”
“Uhh.. welll… sort of.” You answer. “He did kind of break the law, but it wasn’t something a normal person would get arrested for. He did break the rules of what a police officer is allowed to do though, so I think the other two cops that came to get him were pretty upset with him.”
“So he got in trouble!?” She asks.
“Yes, he definitely got in trouble.” You tell her.
“Are you going to get in trouble?”
“It doesn’t look like it,” you assure her, “I would say the lady police officer I was talking to probably likes me actually.”
“She said she wanted you to be a police man!” She observes, making you wonder why she asked if you were going to get in trouble in the first place if she was paying attention enough to remember that. Probably just confirming it to quell her insecurities.
“Yeah,” you confirm.
“Are you going to be a police man Xander?” She asks.
“I don’t know,” you tell her, “never really thought about it.”
“I think you should be!” She says with a giggle.
“Really?”
“Yeah!” She says, “you can beat up the bad guys real good!”
“Haha, well that’s not what it’s all about. I might think about it. It will still be 3 years before I can sign up though if I do.”
Roni seems to accept that answer and she seems to be pretty happy the rest of the trip home. When you get in, you are instantly greeted by the surprise of Brittany coming out of the kitchen. “Oh! You’re home!” She greets you.
“Brittany!” You respond in mild surprise, “when did you get back!?” Well, it is spring break, but you were not really expecting to see her, especially since she was not here when you left out with Roni. She normally lives in the dorms at her college, but you suppose she decided to head back here on break.
“Just after you left for the park with Roni from what I hear,” she says, “Me and Bastian have been catching up and I decided to cook us all something for dinner. Mom says she is working late, so I guess that means I’m in charge! So, how are my nerdy younger brother and adorable baby sister doing?”
“Ok I guess,” you say.
“Xander just beat up a police man!” Roni just blurts out to your embarrassment and empathetic horror for how Brittany almost certainly interpreted that information out of context.
“What!?” Brittany looks stricken with the shock of what she just heard as she looks rapidly with eyes as big as saucers between you and Roni.
