Chad is a popular kid in his high school. He is intelligent, attractive, and genial. Despite being popular, he has not succumbed to the elitist attitude that pervades many that attain that status. He is willing to hang out with anyone, regardless of their popularity. His popular friends like to run interference for him, however, meaning that he doesn't end up hanging out with "undesirables" very often, and when he does they are often suddenly not interested in hanging out when he next sees them. He recently had a rather bad break-up with his cheerleader girlfriend of two years. She dumped him because he was "too nice" and "needed to grow a pair". He's pretty mad at her at the beginning of the story, having discovered that she had been cheating on him almost the whole time they had been going out, while she had only begrudgingly given him the occasional handjob.

- Jillian "Jill" Elaine Morse-Fletcher Mother: Chad gets along with his mother reasonably well. He acts as the man of the house since his father took off with his secretary five years ago. His mother gives him a lot of authority, and expects a lot out of him, but he has risen to the challenge for the most part.
- Guenevere "Gwen" Rachael Fletcher Sister: Gwen has a bit of an rebellious streak, and with Chad's position of authority lashes out at him on occasion. She likes to think of herself as a rebel skater, and her favorite term for her older brother is "poser".
- Emily Lynn Fletcher Sister: Emily takes her brother's authority in stride. He is usually the one picking her up from cheerleading practice since he got his license, so they've grown a bit closer recently.
- Brittany "Bree" Ellen Fletcher Sister: Bree never really knew their father, and has taken Chad on as a surrogate father figure.
- Fenryr "Frosty" Lokison Hoarfrost Pet: Frosty accepts Chad as the alpha male of the household. They get along fine.
Friends, Enemies, and Acquaintances
- Dana Hally Johnson Ex-Girlfriend: Dana is beautiful, charming, arrogant, elitist, shallow, and petty. Chad thought he was in love with Dana. In reality it was sexual interest compiled with the social expectations of high school. They just had a major falling out, and there is a lot of mutual animosity.
- Garrett "Gary" Jonathan Kain Ex-Best Friend: Gary has been Chad's best friend since elementary school. The betrayal of him sleeping with Chad's girlfriend cut deep. Gary doesn't seem to want to actually cause Chad any pain, but he does whatever Dana tells him to.
(Classes) & Teachers
The school day at Thomas Jefferson High School uses Block Scheduling and is split into alternating schedules of:
- 1st Period 8:00 - 9:30
- 2nd Period 9:30 - 11:00
- Lunch/Homeroom 11:00 - 12:00 Lunch is split between "A" and "B" lunch periods of 1/2 hour with the Homeroom comprising the other 1/2 hour
- 3rd Period 12:00 - 1:30
- 4th Period 1:30 - 3:00
Classes alternate from day to day by the primary school colors, red and gold. This gives students eight subjects split over two days, and a longer period of time than traditional classrooms to learn and absorb the information. The class hours are not precisely represented above as there is a "passing period" of three minutes between classes, but that would over-complicate things.
