The Last Horcrux/Hogwarts/House Slytherin/Common Room
WORK IN PROGRESS, NOT FINISHED YET
Eventually, the feast comes to an end, and you and the other Slytherin girls and boys are led to the House Slytherin Common Room and Dormitories, by your prefects and Housemaster, Professor Severus Snape. You are all talking excitedly to one another, before Snape calls for silence.
“Quiet please,” Snape intones loudly, as if it were an enchantment. Something about his voice makes all of you obey.
“Unlike the rabble inducted into other Houses, in House Slytherin, we value self-discipline and respect. Please enter the common room quietly and listen to your prefects. There will be plenty of time for chatter after you have been assigned to your dormitories.”
You smile at Lily and take her hand, whispering in her ear.
“We can share a room if you like?” You whisper to her, “Don’t worry Lily, you stick with me and I’ll see you’re alright.”
Lily smiles back as the House prefects and Professor Snape lead you down several stair cases and into the Dungeons, and the concealed entrance to House Slytherin proper.
“Ok, listen up first years,” an attractive older girl with auburn hair and green eyes says, “my name is Gemma Farley, and I’m one of the House Prefects for Slytherin. Here is where the hidden entrance is to our House. To enter, you need to say the password. It does change occasionally, but at the moment, it is Potentia Altiore.”
As the girl says the words, meaning Power Above All, a blank section of stone wall suddenly has a large stone serpent slither along it, forming an archway with its body. The servant moves in the same hideous way as your Guardian Statue and is perhaps animated by similar magics. One the archway is formed, the stones of the wall seem to magically dissolve, opening a magical doorway for you all to step through.
You descend a further set of curving stairs, passing a large fountain and enter the Slytherin House Common Room.
“Why are the windows green Emily?” Lily asks you, whispering in your ear.
“It’s the lake,” you explain, “we’re underneath the lake we sailed across to enter Hogwarts. It’s night now though, so it must be a magical light. They’ll probably turn it off when it’s time to sleep.”
“Follow me girls,” Gemma says, and leads you in the direction of the girls dormitories.
You and the other Slytherin girls follow Gemma as she leads you down a corridor. She points our dormitories for the older girls, as well as a number of bathrooms that girls from various years share. The walls are adorned with ancient tapestries, as well as portrait paintings of former residents, many of which move due to magical enchantments.
“Here we are,” Gemma says, “First year dormitories. You have to share a bathroom with the second years I’m afraid. This bathroom isn’t in use so don’t go in there. The door is locked anyway.”
Something flickered in Gemma’s eyes as she said that, making you suspicious.
“I’ll leave you girls to settle in and choose your rooms and room mates. We’re all meeting back in the common room in half an hour, so don’t be late.”
She leads you into the dormitory rooms. There are bunk beds for first years, with two girls sharing each room, and a small sitting or study room shared between four girls. As you walk past the first room, Pansy and Daphne immediately claim it.
“This will be our room,” Pansy announces, “House Elves! bring my luggage, and Daphne’s too.”
There is a loud crack as a team of three House Elves appear out of thin air, levitating the girls luggage into their room.
Daphne whispers in Pansy’s ear, and Pansy turns to her and nods.
“If you want to Emily, you and Lily can take the room next to ours,” Daphne says.
“Thanks,” you say, with only mild sarcasm, “I was waiting to ask your permission.”
Daphne rolls her eyes slightly, “We can share a study room this way. There’s another little room with a small bathroom too. These are the best first year rooms.”
You and Lily look at the room you will share. You immediately notice that the previous occupants have left some creepy looking dolls behind, which you remove from the room and dump in the corridor outside. Other than that, the room looks pretty cosy, with some windows backing on to the lake, and numerous curtains for privacy and extra warmth. Despite being underground and next to a lake, the dormitories are warm and cosy.
“Is it true that you’re a Dream Sorceress?” Daphne asks Lily, apparently offering the girl an olive branch of sorts.
“Um…” Lily starts, “Well, Professor Trelawney says I have The Sight, and that I could be really good at Divination Magic. It’s Emily that says I’m an Onero… an Onero…”
“An Oneiromancer,” you say, “Yes, a Dream Sorceress. That’s the name for seers who have prophetic dreams. Isn’t that cool?”
Pansy narrows her eyes at you suspiciously, but Daphne smiles at you and Lily.
“Well, welcome to Slytherin House Lily,” she says, holding out her hand, which Lily takes and shakes gently.
