Have you ever read the book series "Super Powereds" by Drew Hayes? Premise is there are regular humans, Supers who have powers, and Powereds who can't control their abilities. To be a Super Hero requires a 4 year college degree (four different schools offer said degree) where you are trained in your abilities, physical fitness, combat, ethics, etc (all so you can qualify for insurance of course lol), while your regular degree acts as your secret identity's cover.
Anyway, in the series, 5 Powereds undergo an experimental procedure to gain control, with the option of joining the super hero program. One of the characters named Nick had powers similar to this. When he's recruited for the experiment, he's recovering in the hospital. Turns out he won the lottery. Then stepped out of the building where he bought the ticket and was hit by a bus. It didn't kill him outright, but sent him flying where he was saved by a bouncy house. Which tore open and was ruined as it saved him. Of course his winnings were just enough to pay for the bouncy house and hospital bills. Best and Worst luck combined, with no way to control it. Later in the series he gets a power boost and can pretty much play God for a while as he sees the lines of probability connecting absolutely everything and knows just which threads to choose and how to twitch them just right for the outcome he wants to come about. That was the start of it. There are a few more bits of inspiration. I expect Craig to quite a bit more open and honest than Nick. Craig's luck is also mostly good. More or less. If his power has to give him a broken arm to save his life, it will. However, if it can cause a complex series of improbable events in a Rube Goldberg type sequence, well it will do that first. Within the radius of his power it's constantly creating Rube Goldberg sequences to save everyone's life. It never stops. Did his mom really want super children? Because with the parental makeup there would be a 50/50 chance of any particular child having two alleles. That was my thought on it, His mother did want super children, his father did not. His mother didn't tell his father that she was a super until the invasion. She retired to have her first child and never went active again. That was a major blow to the father, he would have been more abusive towards Alex, but she had started to manifest, and you don't want to fuck with a super who can make all the oxygen leave the room. That and Craig was just more protective toward his sisters and stepped in front of their father's wrath.
As a note, Craig's children will have more of a chance of being supers, but likely not probability manipulators. He will also have a tendency to find women and girls who have expressed or recessive S-factors. --Quiller (talk) 23:12, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
