When he was in his early 20s, he fell in love with his then 14 year old wife. They knew they could not get married, but they maintained a secret sexual relationship for several years. When he went to work at the factory in Mahogony Hills and discovered their old-time traditions and perspective on marriage and relations, he had his now 16 year old girlfriend move in with him and go off birth control. Upon getting her pregnant, they were married by the town's rules despite the age issue.
