Take some time to explain her situation

“Well,” you said, “first, you already told me you know about the punishments that involve sex, and I told you that’s only for the really bad stuff. How about you tell me what you know about the stuff this office does with kids who don’t misbehave that badly?

Diya began to look nervous again, glancing around and then looking directly back at the changing table. “W… well, I heard about a couple of kids who had to wear diapers, and then the teacher didn’t let them use the bathroom and they wound up peeing their pants.”

“Yes,” you said, “the diaper is one of the more traumatic punishments available for minor violations. I managed to avoid having to put you through that one. Actually, I already have your punishment written up. You can read it if you like,” at this, you handed her a piece of paper, which she picked up and looked at.

St. Andre Truitt Academe: Office of Disciplinary Actions.

This letter is in concerns to the parents and teachers of Miss Diya Styles. Earlier today, Miss Luana Styles made a threat against a younger student. This action by Miss Luana Styles was determined to be made with the intention of benefiting her younger sister Miss Diya Styles as the child who she threatened was a known bully of her younger sister. In accordance with the new guidelines for disciplinary action, infractions made on behalf of another student are to be met with a punishment to the student those actions were intended to benefit. As such, despite having committed no infraction of her own, Miss Diya Styles is to receive a punishment one severity level lower than the one which Miss Luana Styles received for her infraction in order to dissuade Miss Luana Styles from future action of this sort.

In regards to Miss Diya Style’s punishment, the following actions shall be issued.

For the remainder of this day, Miss Diya Styles shall have to exchange her school uniform for a set of pajamas fit for a very young child. She will be required to wear these pajamas for the remainder of the school day and at home until she returns to exchange them back for her school uniform in the morning of the following day.

In addition to this, at the end of the school day, Miss Diya Styles will be driven personally by the Director of Disciplinary Actions to the house of Mr. and Mrs. Moor, where Luana Styles works as a babysitter for Mrs. Moor’s two children and will be getting off from work at this time. She may then proceed home in the company of her sister.

The intention of the above punishment is not to subject Miss Diya Styles to any ridicule in consideration of the bullying she is already facing at school. This is meant only as a warning to Miss Luana Styles that future actions of this sort will not have a positive consequence for her sister. As such, the nature of the punishment, the pajamas she is to wear are meant to be seen by Luana Styles and the girls’ mother rather than the other children in the school.

Earlier in the day, you had actually had to bring this very same note to your sister while her students were out at recess. That was a bit of a hard conversation to have, it seemed the respect Luana had for Beatriz went both ways. She did not like hearing that you were punishing her and her sister, but you eventually managed to explain to her that you were doing what you were required to do, and you were quite glad you had decided to go light with these punishments. You shuddered to think what would have happened to your relationship with her had you done anything to actually hurt these girls.

“So… so I just have to wear pajamas?” she asked.

“That’s right, I’ll even let you pick them out,” you told her, “before that though, how about you tell me a little bit about the bullying that goes on?” her face immediately darkened when you brought this up, “look, Diya,” you said to her, “it’s like the note says. I know your sister probably protected you a lot in the past, but under the new rules, she can’t do that anymore. If she tries, it’s just going to mean you’re going to get another one of those notes. If you want to be protected from bullies, you’re going to have to do it through official channels from now on. It should be the bullies in here sitting in that chair and getting a note like that. I can’t do my job if you don’t tell me who’s doing bad things to you.”

“W… will you really punish them?” she asked.

“I intend to,” you told her, “actually, I already heard about August Fine. He’s not going to be bothering you anymore. I just expelled him earlier today.”

“Really?” she responded.

“Well, was he out at last recess?” you asked her. To this, she quickly shook her head and jumped out of her chair. She immediately ran around the desk and, sorta expecting what was about to happen, you pushed out your chair a bit and turned to her just in time as she barreled into you and wrapped her arms around your torso, burying her head in your shoulder as you heard a sniffle against an apparently runny nose. You returned her enthusiastic hug by gently wrapping your arms around her in turn and patting her on her small and gentle back.

“You… you… you really did that for me?” she asked, sniffling again and you could tell from the waver in her voice the reason now. It seemed this information had gotten a little overwhelming for her and she was actually crying.

“Well, actually… he was already going to be expelled before Luana threatened him this morning,” you told her, “it’s for something he did yesterday.”

“Oh,” she responded, letting her arms drop away from you and taking a few steps back. She stood against the wall and immediately stared down at the ground.

“That’s actually another part of the reason I was able to justify making this punishment so light,” you told her, “since the student she threatened already had the paperwork in for an expulsion, she didn’t get punished as bad, which meant I didn’t have to punish you as bad either,” Diya’s only response to this was to use the muscles in her back to momentarily bounce herself off the wall before letting gravity took her back to the same position and tilting her head further down toward the floor, “I’m sorry,” you told her, “but I’m not going to be able to just expel a student just because they’re bullying you. However, I can probably find a good punishment for them. That’s only if you tell me about what they’re doing though.

“Hmm…” she grunted and then nodded her head a little.
