God's Compensation/Meekly go to the chair and sit

At his word, you walk over to the chair. It is a weird thing, it feels as though you are floating as you cross the room, and you are almost glad to be touching something secure and stable like the chair as you seat yourself and get off your unsteady feet. You look up expectantly at the guy who brought you here. You are not sure what it is, but there is something about this guy. There is something about the sure confident way he carries himself that just... makes you feel safe, like you can trust him. He is not dressed in a lab-coat or anything, but you find yourself relating to him with the exact same kind of trust that you would a doctor in this situation. You still have your doubts about the situation, but you somehow feel like you want to hear whatever he has to say.

“Well,” he says, seeming to hesitate for the first time since he started talking to you, “this is going to get a little hard to explain.” At this, he walks over to the examination table and leans his back-side heavily against it as he fixes you with a concerned look that has your stomach suddenly tyeing itself in knots. Mr. Austin, a name that has you wondering whether it is his first or his last name, lets out a long breath and begins to look down a little, partially avoiding eye-contact. “Let's say, something really strange happened.” He tells you. “An understatement, I know. However, I don't think you have really had time to realize yet just how extensive the effects on you have been.”

What is this guy talking about? Whatever it is, one thing is clear, he is about to give you some kind of bad-news, to witch your mind is already preparing itself. You suddenly find that your mind is amazingly clear, all intrusive thoughts have been wiped away. At the same time though, all of your senses are on alert. It is an adrenaline high, your psyche senses danger, and your body is preparing itself for whatever it is that might come next in this uncertain situation.

“Well,” he cuts in again, “you remember how your writing lab went just a bit ago, right? How people you knew were acting as though they didn't even know who you were?”

Damn it! There he goes again talking about your situation as though he saw the whole thing happen. Where has this guy been watching you from?

“Yeaaaahhhh...” You respond with a great deal of trepidation, fearing whatever this guy is about to say next every bit as much as you are impatient for him to just spit it out already and give you some freaking answers.

“Well,” he says, “you are probably going to find that will apply to everybody in the school as well as everybody you know.”

It is odd hearing these words. On the one hand, what he is saying seems totally beyond something that can be believed. At the same time though, it just seems to fit with and answer everything that has been happening today.

“Just what's going on?” You ask this Mr. Austin, realizing in your mind that, somewhat despite yourself, part of you is really starting to believe what he is saying and is ready to believe whatever he is about to say no matter how absurd it is.

“Something got messed up,” he tells you. “That dark sphere you saw was a type of disturbance in reality itself. When it touched you, it removed you from existence.”

“What?” You respond, suddenly doubting. If it 'eliminated you from existence,' then how are you sitting here right now and having this conversation.

“Well, it didn't destroy your mind or body,” he adds as though he had anticipated the thoughts that just went through your head, “however it did erase all history of the fact that you ever existed.”

“Huh?” is the most intelligent response you can muster. While it does seem to fit, having these absurd things told to you is beginning to break the spell that this guy has had you under and you once again are wondering whether or not you can even believe this bullshit. Once again, your mind goes back to him pulling some kind of sick joke the staff are all in on.

'Mr. Austin' fixes you with a very serious look. “You have seen the movie, 'It's a wonderful life, right?'” he asks, to witch you impulsively nod. “Well, it's sort of like that, except without the ability to plead with an angelic guide to put things back the way they were. Right now, it is as though you were never born. It might as well be a parallel world. Having your thread removed from history has changed several events in several people's lives to fit around your absence, and your parents will not even know who you are.”

Ok... what? Alright...
