Life Hacks/Cover the last few bits on the subject of female reproduction
“Yeah, something like that.” You say, “It is actually the exact same stuff as when you have a runny nose and the slimy snot is coming out.” This gets giggles from both Roni and Bastian, and even a little smile from Angel. Brittany, while she still doesn’t seem to consider this proper meal time conversation, also seems to be looking at you with a bit of admiration and doesn’t seem interested in objecting to the direction the conversation has gone.
“That’s right,” Brittany chimes in. “You know, I never really thought about it that way, but Xander’s right about that. It is mucous, it actually is the same stuff that comes from your nose.”
“Wow, Xander, you’re really smart!” Angel approves with a cute smile and her shoulders held up to her cheeks as she fidgets about in the childish sign of bashfulness. “He heee. Brittany didn’t tell me about any of this stuff.” She adds in a sort of accusatory tone.
“Yeah, sorry about that.” Brittany says. “You were pretty scared, I didn’t want to go into a long explanation.”
“So why does it bleed to get rid of the boogers?” She asks.
“It’s not just the… well… I guess we can call it boogers for now.” Brittany says with a glare in your direction as though she were just made the victim of a practical joke. “It’s not just the boogers that come out. It is not actually a bad thing for the boogers to be made in your uterus, that’s actually good for the baby, the problem is that some of the cells that make the boogers go bad so those cells have to come out, that’s why it is all bloody, and then new cells grow in their place.”
This is crazy, this is turning into a full force sex education class in the middle of lunch. Well, if the subject is a girl’s period, you suppose that is exactly the conditions under witch it might come up.
“So does this mean that Angel can have a baby now?” Bastian asks.
“Well,” Brittany says, “It means her body is ready, but she is still too young to have a baby.”
“How does the baby get in her?” He asks.
“Well….” Brittany responds, looking like she very much does not want to answer this question.
“The boy puts his penis inside me!” Angel answers the question, giving Brittany a very uncomfortable look.
“Umm… yes, that’s right,” she says. “But like I said, you are still too young for that, so this means you have to make sure you don’t let any boys do anything like that with you.”
“Mmm hmm...” Angel responds, looking rather disappointed. “But I do want to have a baby!” She says.
“Well, you will be able to think about having a baby when you get older,” Brittany responds, “right now you need to not let a boy get anywhere near your privates.”
“Hey, what would happen if me and Angel had a baby?” Bastian asks.
“Absolutely not!” Brittany snaps, looking over at Bastian with a great deal of furry. “I don’t want to hear anything like that! You two are not ready to have a baby. Having a baby is a big responsibility. I don’t want to hear any more talk like that from either of you until you are old enough to be in college. If I hear anything else like that, you are grounded until the end of the week, and I will talk to Xander about keeping you grounded after that if I need to. Do you understand me!?”
“Yesh” Bastian groans. Angel does not say anything, but she is obviously cowed by the fury that Brittany just showed, and she gives a timid nod.
There is a tense atmosphere over the remainder of lunch as it passes in relative silence, and you are once again left with the almost distressing amount of detail you can now make out in the sounds of people chewing and swallowing. The air about the meal is almost oppressive. You can probably find a way to lighten up the mood, but you get the sense that Brittany kind of wants things to stay this way for the sake of driving in her point. At any rate, you finish your meal quickly and are relieved to leave the table.
