Make sure that you put the story category on EVERY story page. Currently, the pages The orphanage/Introduction and The orphanage/Chapter1 do not have categories. If it helps, the category can go anywhere on the page. You can place it as the very first thing on the page (before you write anything) if it helps you remember. Please fix these pages and try to remember your categories in the future. --Elerneron (talk) 14:05, 20 December 2021 (CET)

thanks for reminding me, I will do my best not to forget it --Josepadilla (talk) 00:22, 21 December 2021 (CET)

That's what I'm here for. One thing to note; I know it is counter-intuitive, but the preferred method to respond to someone leaving a message on your talk page is to leave the response on THEIR talk page instead of below the original message. This way, they get an alert that they have a new message. Otherwise they might miss your response. --Elerneron (talk) 05:46, 21 December 2021 (CET)

Unfortunately you've discovered the bane of writers. I guarantee that your stories are being read. The problem for us writers is that very few readers give feedback. Unfortunately, I don't know a way for you to advertise to get more traffic for your stories. You could encourage feedback by asking what the readers would like to see in your story on the first page; but this would likely only get you requests and not any real feedback. It's not just you. All of the writers on this site (and I suspect many other sites) experience this same problem. People just don't want to take the time to comment on the stories they read. Even though I suffer from this affliction; when I'm on the other side, reading a story, I'll admit I usually do the same thing . . . which is to do nothing. I don't really find the time or inclination to read much these days; but when I do, I rarely leave comments. It's something I really need to work on. Sorry I couldn't be much help. Maybe take solace in the fact that you are not alone? --Elerneron (talk) 17:47, 24 December 2021 (CET)

Thanks and please do. I’m finishing up chapter 13 of April’s Punishment right now. I’m not sure how many more chapters there will be yet. I know at least 3 more, but I could see it going a bit longer if I’m suddenly super inspired. I have the ending figured out, I just haven’t quite decided how I’m going to get there. --Hgcollins (talk) 04:45, 22 December 2021 (CET)

For the sentence structure, you need to make them shorter and not use too many commas, as that causes the sentence to "run on."

Example:

Sentence starts, unimportant stuff goes between commas (or parentheses,) and the sentence ends; a semicolon can be used to continue a sentence that is becoming too long, but is normally not used and it is preferred that you use a "punto" and just start a new sentence.

The whole phrase that a person speaks also needs to be between quotation marks and usually a person's name is also capitalized

“My name is Dog but I, myself, am human and not a dog” said Dog the Bounty Hunter.

Think Rey vs rey, Papa vs papa, or Dios vs dios

The person is named Rey, and they are the king (rey) The Pope (Papa) eats potatoes (papas) God (Dios) is the name of the Christian god (dios).

You may have noticed that I used both the classic “ ” and the modern " " interchangeably. In a professional environment, it is recommended that you use “ ”, but for more informal situations, you can use " " --MrPib (talk) 07:39, 22 December 2021 (CET)

Interjection

(Elerneron interjecting here) One of MrPib's great examples has a minor grammatical mistake. When writing dialog, a comma should come between the part in quotations and the rest of the sentence.

“My name is Dog but I, myself, am human and not a dog” said Dog the Bounty Hunter.

Should be:

“My name is Dog but I, myself, am human and not a dog,” said Dog the Bounty Hunter.

If the quoted part came after the non-quoted part:

Dog the Bounty Hunter said, “My name is Dog but I, myself, am human and not a dog.”

Note that because the quotation came at the end of the sentence, the ending punctuation (a period in this case) is inside the quotation marks.
