I've gone back and forth about that one. Him knowing too much will create baggage on the story, but him not knowing anything about it what so ever kind of pushes the suspension of disbelief. There is probably a balance between those somewhere, but I haven't quite arrived at it. Bottom line, he does know something, I just haven't figured how much he knows or when he found out.
