Pearl Accardi, it seemed, despite being an honor student just couldn't stay out of trouble. It seemed every other week she was back in your office for some minor violation, which seemed the same as the previous one.
"It seems Perl Accardi is back," Ms. Varano would tell you. "I know the guidelines call for an escalation even with minor infractions, but, well, she IS our best honor student, and this was a very minor violation."
Every single time it was a fairly minor violation. You were tempted to wonder whether or not someone had it in for the poor girl. Or, more likely, she was doing it on purpose. She was in your office every other week like clockwork, just long enough between punishments to avoid an immediate escalation. With the workload you faced with all the other girls you had to punish, she actually managed to get away with this routine for quite a while.
