You and Lily rush down to breakfast in the Great Hall. The food at Hogwarts is fantastically good, perhaps because of the small army of House Elves that work in the castle. You end up sitting with Lily, Safira and Jiao-Jie. You know you are in some ways the misfits of Slytherin House first years, despite your Pureblood heritage, but you really don’t care. You can see that Draco is attracting a little gang of followers already, and that Pansy is becoming the head of a clique of pureblood girls, even though Daphne is older, smarter and prettier than her.
You look across the hall to see your other friend, Lavender, sat with the annoying Granger girl. You begin to wonder if Hermione could suffer in a terrible accident of some kind, tragically dying, so that you could have your friend back. It wouldn’t work though; Lavender truly is a Gryffindor, no matter what you do.
A magical bell sounds and you rush to finish your breakfast, then you have to run to get to you first lesson. You take extra two pieces of bacon and a glass of orange juice with you as you leave the hall, running and laughing with Lily.
